The trans-siberian railway served as a means to open up Siberia to Russia/the USSR and ensured a reliable land route to the Far East. After its construction a massive migration wave to Siberia began and it led to an economic and industrial revolution of the region. During tha 2nd world war it was used to transport Soviet war industry to the Ural and West Siberian regions.
