>>1953091anyway my findings!
first off knee pain cured
ive been doing some intense rides up steep hills to really test it and normally rides like this would end with a sharp stabbing pain when i got off the bike
now theres none
my knees ache but it feels like an ache that should happen from this kind of heavy use like my muscles and ither joints
i can actually walk after an intense ride now
so thats a success but theres so much more to the shorter cranks
my lower back pain has gone too!
im guessing this is to do with hip rocking or something which i think has lessened now
my cadence doesnt feel like its incresed but high cadences and maintaining cadence under a high load feels so much more comfortable
i like to spin and before spinning felt like it was straining my body now i can spin all day
an interesting thing is that pushing a harder gear or keeping from stalling out when the hill gets too steep has become alot easier too
feels kinda like an oval chainring (which ive also experimented with) but better
the top of the pedal stroke which is normally the hardest part just kinda goes over now
i think because my leg is at a more optimal angle at that position pushing the pedal forwards is just easier and the smaller circle means my foot spends less time in that position
so my low cadence performance feels better too
the myth that the leverage of long cranks is good for climbing hills is FALSE
the short cranks make me feel less like i need super low gearing and make powering out of a stall much easier
i pedal standing up alot as im a mountainbiker at heart and this also now feels easier and i feel more stable with my feet closer together
the only downside ive found to this whole thing is that my seat is now higher so mounting the bike is a little harder
kinda feels like my bb is higher too
if your gonna get some super short cranks id reccomend a bike with a low bottom bracket
