>>1960388GA is based, but it comes with a $10k price tag in U.S for training, plus another $2500 for a tailwheel endorsement. If you do not want to be cucked by flying clubs (one near me has 25 guys sharing the same Cessna 150, which allegedly has 12000 TTAF) and buy an aircraft then you are looking at least $20k for something that is not perceived to be a death trap (i.e not an ultralight). Ultralights are still about $10k-15k, so there is not much savings to be had if you earn your PPL first.
Part 103 could save on costs, but is considered one of the most unsafe categories of GA operations and a lot of people do not do it because of insurance (health, life and aircraft insurance).
Fractional ownership is another option, but once you get more than 1/2 or 1/3 ownership, then you have to start fighting for flying times.
In other words, my main factor preventing me from flying is money. I can afford the training as it stands now, but not the aircraft ownership side of the equation and I would not touch a club with a ten foot long pole.
