Just six months into the job, the Louisiana Republican is already facing a potential revolt from the right wing of the GOP. One of his harshest critics, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene from Georgia, has filed a resolution to remove him from office if it gets approved by the House.
See, Johnson helped push through a $1.2 trillion spending package with the help of Democratic votes, even though his conservative colleagues were hatin' on it. And Greene ain't havin' it. She's saying this is a "warning and a pink slip" for the speaker.
Now, this ain't the first time the House has tried to oust a speaker. Last year, the rebels in the Republican party teamed up with the Dems to get rid of Kevin McCarthy. And the rules make it pretty easy - any single lawmaker can file a "motion to vacate the chair" to trigger a vote on booting the speaker.
The problem is, Johnson's got some of his own colleagues throwing cold water on Greene's plan. They're sayin' they don't think it's the right time to try and oust another GOP speaker, 'cause that could just end up handing the gavel to the Dems.
But Greene ain't backing down. She's sayin' she's "started the clock" on the process to elect a new speaker. And if Johnson gets the boot, the first person on the list to take over as speaker pro tempore would be Patrick McHenry, the chair of the House Financial Services Committee.
