Under the U.S. Constitution, anyone born in the United States can be elected president, even if their parents are immigrants. Haley nee Randhawa, 51, was born in Bamberg, South Carolina.

But tRump - who famously claimed that Barack Obama had been born in Kenya, rather than Hawaii - reposted on his social media a post saying she could not be president.

'Analysis: Legal scholar asserts U.S. Constitution disqualifies Nikki Randhawa Haley from presidential or vice presidential candidacy,' the post from the conservative news site The Gateway Pundit said.

The Gateway Pundit referenced claims made by Paul Ingrassia, a law clerk who graduated from law school in 2022 and describes himself on X as a 'constitutional scholar.
