Freeze dried can be good, but it fucks with me if I run 3 or more days on just that, so I'm always grateful to catch n cook or pick up some birds if it's hunting season. One of the best freeze dried meals I've had is the meatball and zucchini meal from this brand called next mile meals, that's tasty shit but pricy.
I'll usually pack out some peppers, onions and mushrooms to go with fish.
