The key to successful design is having the main mass of weight directly over the wheel(s) and having wheels that are very big around to reduce problems with bumps and going over logs. Pulling wheels over rocks and logs is easier than pushing them over.
If you need a narrower one, just make a two-wheel inline or one-wheel one instead. A bicycle with a couple handholds would also work really well. It wouldn't need chains, gear, or be steerable if you want. Just load it up with a flat top and saddle bags/panniers on the sides.
