newhiker here, preparing for two future hikes with my frens, one in the alps 2800 top-height for just 2 days and one big trip crossing the Skye Island for a week next year. Have been advised to take comfy lightweight and dry-fast trail runner shoes, I agree, boots always fucked up my toes and foot. I've found a cheap budget quechua MH100 waterpoof shoe or the same model without waterproofing, they are 40€. Ive read about the downsides of waterpoof shoes: hard to dry, they are heavier, not breathable and I should get tops and wateproof sprays to make them efficient. My biggest concern is Skye island. If it rains multiple days id like to avoid being soaked and having to dry those shoes in a cold weather so maybe the non waterpoof shoes are better for how controversial this idea is or are the waterpoof shoes better anyways? Any advice? If I shouldnt get cheap shoes, which ones then?
