this is big one. Two smart waterbottles is infinitely more flexible than one bladder.
If you filter, you can have a dirty water bottle and a clean water bottle.
If you use chemicals, you can have one bottle that is treating, and one that is already treated
If one breaks, you're not screwed since you have a backup

If you already go outdoors, there's no need to make an announcement and ask for social approval.
It's just a normal weekend, and you go /out/ as normal, and maybe share pictures afterwards if you feel like it. But it's no different than updating your friends after they ask you what you got up to on your weekend.

Meanwhile, /never outers/ are typically urbanite city-types, whose only exposure to the outdoors are hyped up media representations by youtube or hollywood.
So they think it's some big deal to go outdoors, and thus feel the need to make a thread or announcement before going outdoors as if it were some huge expedition they're embarking on.
They make a big deal BEFORE going, because to they've never gone outdoors before, so it is a big deal to the.

For sleeping pads:
>1-2 is good for summer
>2-4 is good for shoulder seasons
>R > 5 or greater minimum for winter

from the math formula it obviously differs depending on temperature differential, i.e., so the bigger the difference between your body temperature and the ground, the more insulation you need.
The nice part is R value adds linearly, so a cheap Zlite (R=2) with 3-season inflatble (R=4) gives you a total of R=6, which is good enough for winter.

Ozarks has Ozark Highland Trail
Ouachitas has the Ouachita Trail
Both around 200 miles long, so you can pick a section you want to do.

there's also shorter trails 3-day loops like eagle rock loop, etc.

Ozark trail is more weaving in valleys of creeks and waterfalls
Ouachita trail is more top of ridge mountain overlooks (especially the part that parallels Talimena scenic drive)

If you're in the Ouachitas they're a lot closer to hot springs NP

Keep in mind it's going to be november, so the trees will be barren and grey.
Plus thanksgiving is dead in the middle of deer season, and hunting's pretty big in Arkansas

Kansas sucks but if you're in any of the major cities (KS, Wichita, Topeka), you're within a 4-6 hours drive of the the Ozarks in MO/AR or the Ouachitas in Oklahoma.

That's more than good enough for regular 2 day weekend trips.

>Drive 4-5 hours to your spot, get there around 10PM-Midnight
>Sleep in car
>Wake up ready for a full day Saturday, and most of the day Sunday
>Leave Sunday evening around 6PM, grab some diner food and get back to KS from 10PM-Midnight
