Bong here, joined beavers then followed onto cub scouts. Both were just run mostly by women and we rarely did anything, just stayed in a hall most evenings because kids couldn't behave enough to go outside so we naturally were bored and misbehaved even more. Never bothered with proper scouts as a result. I hear from friends that used to be in the scouts and went on to be scout leaders about their experiences and I feel like I really missed out.
>In beavers once we drew/coloured in world flags for the evening and I drew a rather striking and eye-catching banner the cool soldiers used during the Sound of Music, a film that my immediate family (all are women) were obsessed with. Being an autistic eight year old, it was quite upsetting to get shouted at by one of the women in charge of our beaver group and have her tear the flag I spent ages colouring in up in my face.
