>>2690486If day hiking to good vistas is your thing, then the Upper Midwest will have no chance against Appalachia. However, the Superior Hiking Trail goes the length of Minnesota's Superior coast. This area has the Canadian Shield meeting the largest lake in the world by surface area, creating some impressive cliffs and hills. Pic related is the Sawtooth "Mountains" of Superior's North Shore. From a more generalized tourism stance, during the summer is when this part of the country really is fun (unless you wanted to go skiing/snowboarding).
Stuff I'd recommend
>Gooseberry Falls>Voyageurs/BWCA of course>Downtown Two Harbors>Split Rock Lighthouse>Soudan Underground Mine and research lab>Duluth's waterfront has the Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center, Convention Center, Amsoil Arena, Aquarium, Grandma's Saloon>Ashland, Wisconsin is a nice little college town on Superior>Marquette, Michigan is too>Search for agates if you see a gravel pit or are near a quieter beach>>2690566If you have SCUBA certification and you want some good diving, the Great Lakes are absolutely littered with shipwrecks over the years. They're also cold as fuck, even in summer, so make sure you have appropriate diving gear.
