Campers have tanks and batteries. They can usually function for atleast a few days on their own. Solar panels help, Though if you want to run the 120/240v plugs youll need to fire up a generator, 0therwise you need to use 12v stuff.
Also, depending on the type you have, and how rough you're willing to get with it, you can actually take them on some fairly hairy terrain, truck campers anyways.
You do not have to camp at designated spots/parks.
