Like I said, Tormek comes with some sticker shock, they are very expensive, I have about $1300 in my T8. But they are built like a tank, are supper adaptable, and they really stand behind their products. They by default come with a 7 year warranty that covers commercial use, and if you can snag one of the sexy black 50th anniversary T8s before they are gone, it legit comes with a 50 year warranty.
As for the free hand, if you are doing that mostly as a hobby for your own knives, then consider just the DMT Coarse for reprofile, and some water stones for polishing. I really like Naniwa Chosera stones, I recently upgraded all of my miscellaneous water stones to all Chosera… and haven’t used them nearly enough yet. But free hand is a very opinionated area of sharpening, and a lot of people swear by different stones. It’s more about what feels best for you over time.
