Also some hooks just suck. Some bend super easy(mustads) or are two dull or too large of barbs and won't get proper hook penetration. Alot of stock hooks on lures are trash with too long of shanks, lack of split rings or not large enough.
Going back to line. If you fish with light mono it's hard to get a good hookset with thick hooks and a smaller, light wire hook might get more penetration. Conversely when fishing with braid use beefy hooks.
