I live in a central valley suburb that's about an hour either direction from the sea or the mountains. It's no PNW, but I think the variety compensates. A lot of places in the central valley get a bad rep for being gang infested nig nog zones but desu a lot of the semi rural places are perfectly fine and don't cost an arm and a leg to live in. Honestly, the only real gripe I have is there's little in the valley save for some riparian areas and farms, so you probably need to drive at least an hour to see anything cool.
