Again, physics, warmer air rises, blanket vents body heat through sides and folds. A mummy bag that fits your height is the smallest and lightest air tight enclosure for your body. You heat it up fastest and you stay warm through the night. If i had your underquilts id probably attempt -18c trips again. Invest in a sleeping bag.
