Hey /out/,
noob here looking for 'beginner' camping gear for one person. So far I have mostly borrowed gear and am ready to get my own stuff.
Have been doing some research and have some specific questions. Would love for some more seasoned hikers to share their experiences.
I am currently in the EU, thus some US brands might not be available locally/expensive.
Male, 170cm. I am planning to use this on 1-2 day hikes for now and for this gear to compliment some hitchhiking plans I have. Thus it will likely be carried alongside several weeks worth of regular travel stuff as well. I am looking to level up from there and am open to some winter hikes as well. Also gear should resist most conditions, incl. sand. I sleep very cool and tend to sleep in my side.
Although I obviously don't need to go UL (right away), I don't want to have to keep buying gear in the future. So these is my preliminary ideas:
>Tent: Nemo Hornet 2P (non-Osmo)
Used. Not sure whether the new Osmo material is worth the extra price vs. a second-hand, but mint non-Osmo version. Also considered looking for an old Hilleberg Enan. Also don't know whether 1P is worth the space and weight savings vs. the 2P.
>Sleeping bag: Pajak Core 550
Also considering going straight for a custom one from Roberts. But I find that process might be too much for a noob. Would love some opinions on Małachowski and Cumulus. I am looking at Comfort temps somewhat below 0C/30F.
>Pad: Nemo Tensor (Reg-Wide)
Used. Not sure the new All-Season or Extreme are worth it. The NeoAir might be too noisy.
Some advice on pillows, a chair and head torch would be great too.
How does this sound to the more experienced hikers and travelers here and would it be suitable as a buy-once-and-forget gear list?
Some opinions and alternatives would be welcome too.
