>>1499688making your own is incredibly easy. all you need is a vice, marabou, and thread.
>viceyou could use a several hundred dollar specialized fly vice, you could use a $17 cheap-o vice off amazon, you could clamp needle nose vice grips in a bench vice and use that (that was actually my first vice, i used it for almost a year) just get a vice
>threaddedicated tying thread is ideal, if you are ordering in a vice you might as well get the right thread on the order. white is the most versatile colour, you can make it any colour you want with a sharpie. If you don't have a million sharpies just lying around, ordering some white and black is the most versatile, and something bright is also handy. pink, orange, red, i don't think it matters so much as long as it's obnoxious. you could get away with normal sewing thread but it's a pain, i would highly recommend danville's 140 denier flat waxed thread. my go-to thread, really.
>marabouturkey flats are available from walmart for $0.99/bag of a fuckload of feathers; craft stores have a wider selection.
>other tools-bobbin, not required but nice. the griffin bobbins are nice for the price, and what i use.
-whip finish tool; not required but handy.
-scissors; you need to be able to cut things.
-dubbing needle or substitute. you's be surprised how handy a needle is at the vice
-nail polish; you'll never find a cheaper head cement or one available in so many colours. if you could only have one, have clear. you can paint jig heads with it, as well.
-jigheads; you need a jig head to make a jig. you can get a collared one but i prefer uncollared like pic related
just stick a hook in the vice, snip the marabou fibers from the center stem, and tie them in about evenly around the hook. youtube is a good resource for this, you can also look up other tying techniques. i personally like to tie mine with a dubbing loop, the body winds up fuller and more durable.
