>>2331747It's not that 18 mpg Vs 25 mpg is the deal breaker.
Gas is $5.50 here. Spend $93 a week. My 17 gallon tank gets me 500 miles in my Accord. Right at 30 MPG.
Plus weekend trips, I exceed 15,000 miles a year but let's say it's 15k for easy math
That's 30 full tanks a year, or 510 gallons (actually more cause its an 18.5 Gallon tank but I digress)
That's $2790 a year in fuel. I'd like to venture out MORE, but also pay off house faster. If I go from 30 MPG to 18 mpg that's a huge increase in $,$$$. That could be going towards my house, repairs, other hobbies. Not gasoline.
So that's why I'm looking at CVT Subaru's. Not old 5 speed Toyota's with old engines. It's seems on the Subie forums some guy went from Jeeps or 4Runners and love that their Subaru is the best of both worlds, daily driver + mild off road trails.
Again I'm not looking to go off trail and Overland into the wilderness. I'm looking to cruise these dirt roads that my sedan cannot do. At the same time, a real 4x4 is not needed, this why I'm looking at AWD softroaders. These trails could be done in a 2wd truck with A/Ts it seems.
Anyways my mind is made up, stick to your old shitboxes and gas wasters I have a mortgage to chip away at.
Also this year alone I've explored Bruce Canyon (before and after heavy snow) Capitol Reef Page AZ Antelope Canyon Nevada, I'll be well over 15,000 miles. 30 MPG sure is sweet
