He was in the wrong.
He premeditated the murder. He detached the scope from his rifle so he could use the iron sights to make faster shots in close-quarters, shot the only one armed with a rifle, and then shot the rest, two of them in the back. People who are running away and don't have any visible weapon aren't a threat.
NONE OF THEM SHOT AT HIM when he slaughtered six people who caught him illegally hunting on their property. He then hid himself to ambush two more people from behind and when a wounded, unarmed woman begged for mercy, he walked over and shot her in the head. Then he went back to the first six he shot, saw one was only wounded and said "you not dead yet?" and tried to finish him off, but the guy fired a single shot at him and he ran away.
This guy was a piece of shit with a history of violence and threatening to kill others, and this time he actually carried through with it. He's also suspected of murdering two more hunters in the past, but they never charged him for those since he got put away for murdering six people in cold blood.
Fuck Vang, and fuck you for defending him.
