Most national parks allow camping, but with restrictions (specific locations, might need a permit, etc.) A few smaller ones like acadia don't allow it. Just google the NP you're interested in and "camping" and you will get the regulations
National forests on the other hand you can walk in set up a tent pretty much wherever you want
