If you've been hiking all day and the water freezes around the threads, you might think like you're tightening it properly. But once you pour hot water into the bottle, it slowly melts the ice, and then the cap gets loose, spilling it everywhere. If you're careful clearing the ice away each time it's not a problem, but I've seen it happen before when people get careless and it leaks into their backpack. So I personally I don't take the risk putting it into my sleeping bag if i'm going solo and the trailhead is several miles away
