>>1376586>>1376130>>1376114If you are camping you shouldn't need to split anything. There should be enough deadfall limbs around for whatever thickness you need. I always use a splitting maul when splitting cord wood. It has a flat butt on one side for pounding wedges. A felling axe has a flat butt too, but being so light, it isn't that great for anything beyond felling and felling wedges. I always use a double bit felling axe for felling since I have to hit low sometimes. I never fell anything over 10-12 inches so I never needed felling wedges.
For bushcraft or actual building I use a hatchet mostly. The larger stuff requires an axe, otherwise it is a waste of time.
