>>2623689A lot of Gregory packs (definitely the Zulu, Baltaro, and Focal, plus their female equivalents) have a mesh back panel suspension rather than a typical foam pad. The mesh molds to the wearers back, eliminating pressure points and distributing the load more evenly. It also provides a shit ton more ventilation than a typical pack. The downside is that the load is carried slightly further from your center of gravity. I personally wouldn’t buy a pack that doesn’t have it.
A few other companies use a similar style suspension. Ospreys been doing it for decades on most of their backpacking packs. Mountain Hardware packs have it as well, but I’m not sure if it’s on all models. The Zpacks Arc series too, but those are more niche product.
