>>2260687Still no hunting thread so I'll post here. Got this squirrel recently. Big old squirrel. Heard him and another squirrel making all sorts of noises in the distance so I snuck up on him as close as I could comfortably get hoping he wouldn't notice and run by the time I got the branches out of the way. Honestly thought someone was using a distress call and I was about to get blasted in the face when I peeked over the edge of the hill. Nope, two squirrels bickering at each other. I think this one either wanted to mate or wanted to kick another squirrel off his territory. One would go in the hole in the tree and either he'd go in and I'd hear some noises or he'd go in and they'd immediately come out. He was chasing the other squirrel around the tree.
He has a fresh scrape on his face and his tail is cut short from an old injury. I think either an animal or another squirrel (while fighting him) got a hold of his tail and absolutely mauled it; normal squirrel tails should be about 10-11". There were at least two vertebrae in fucked up positions, one at a 45 degree (vertebrae off to one side of the spine) and one at about a 90, both at the end of the tail. You could feel how out of place they were through his skin. I guess he had a long life of pushing other squirrels out of his territory and fighting, or at least that's what it seems like. Also had a lot of fleas.
