I'm driving from Lake Tahoe To Alabama next month and want to camp out in essential places like in Colorado, Utah and probably Texas. What are some spots I should stay at and experience? Any alt routes? Advice? Will be bringing a dog and a qt3.14. All I have is an rei tent, couple of sleeping bags, a sleeping pad and a yeti cooler.

San Rafael Swell - Wedge Overlook. Buckhorn Angels too.
Go out and camp at Secret Spire near Moab if you have a truck. It's an easy Jeep Safari Route.

Skip Colorado, it'll be cold and/or mud season there.

as someone who has driven across texas multiple times i can also tell you theres no fucking wooded camping areas and i hope you like dead grass prairies. the only woods you'll find are on the east near louisiana.
