I am finally back in civilization after living almost 2 years in the woods (20 months)

Long story short

>Get accused of serious crime
>go in the woods with backpack
>live in woods for 20 months till the issue gets cleared up.

The thing i wish I brought more of?

Socks. Going to the doctor to get my feet checked.

Anyone else actually live in the woods for a long period of time?

I didn't want to spend six months in county lockup on charges when we had proof that she was in fucking California at the time she said I assaulted her. Took almost two years to get the hotel and airline to release the records.

Other then my pride, the REI branded 4 person tent I had started to fall apart in less then a month. Though the frame was strong and was able to use it for other stuff.

I had about 2 months of food with me, but as it dragged on i had to forage (both in the woods and in the more urban areas) I also after about 2 months had a chronic shortage of matches, which make life so much easier. I am now almost thankful for messy campers as one group left a huge box of safety matches with only a few used after they left and that stuff was a godsend to me.

No, matches make life a lot easier. sorry it wasn't clear.

In the woods - have good guidebook for your region. Even if you know 5-10 things you can eat that can really help. for example I ate like a king when the black walnut trees I IDed started to drop nuts.

Urban - know when the supermarkets throw out food time wise. Same with resturants. Pick quickly then haul it off and sort. leave the crappy stuff for the animals and take the rest for yourself. For example, as soon as bread gets a spot of mold, they will throw it out. Just grab it and throw out the peices that are moldy and you will have half a loaf of good bread. Just eat it quickly. Same things happens with "spotty fruit" and so on.

Sure if I was setting up a hunting camp I would set up a lot more shit. But I had 48 hours to get to the woods.

And I am healthier now then when I went into the woods. The only issue I have is my feet hurt like hell due to the sock issue. The issue is fixed but I have another week of foot pain to look forward to.

I am not that good looking, but I did lose 80 pounds which I am sure makes me appear more attractive.

I am not going to lie, I am thinking about writing a book, might help pay my lawyer. Also I will be the first to say that the girl in question is a sweet 5/10-6/10 gal. She no Jessica Biel, but I am not going to complain.

The first 10-14 days are really tough.

After that it not bad at all, though if you had any interaction you restart that clock.

Really after about 14 days you DON'T want to talk/deal with people as I think your mind changes to isolation mode.

I made a fireplace/firehole for my winter (underground) shelter.

I knew how to use a Axe, I had set up a tent (once) before, I am a decent fisherman (line and reel), and I was taught how to clean fish and small animals. I had car camped twice in my life for two days total.

However I am good at plant ID with a book.

Daaaaamn son, man I wish you knew about Portyanki, they're Footwraps that used to be used by The russians, Finns and Germans. Actually they were used by pretty much ever Euro until socks came around, but even then in WW2 both Germans and Russians used them. They're Long lasting, dry quick and when you do get holes in them, you can just use a different spit of the cloth. Only problem is is that you must wrap them properly or you'll have the worst blisters and foot pain and they take a while to learn how to wrap properly. Once you do get it down, they'll work just as good if not better than socks. Very comfortable properly wrapped.

I will be the first one to say I was salvaging stuff and did my share of dumpster diving and the like. For example - bag of potatoes start to sprout at a store? they will throw the entire bag in the trash (and sometimes just leave it out back) and a few 10lb bags of potatoes can go a long way to keep one fed. (and you can even plant them.)

As said, my tent sucked, so I had to more quickly figure out how to set up a shelter then I hoped. And I found out i should have brought more of some stuff (matches, salt/pepper, and so on)

But a lot of the gear stuff is about going all light. So I lugged more stuff at first but then had good, long lasting stuff, and didn't do shit like try to cut wood with a knife. I just brought a axe to do a axe job.>>1234879

Sexual assault.

She said I assaulted her and forced her to suck my dick. Even if she gave the wrong description of my thing, and we had witnesses to show she was in California while I was in GA at the time. Took almost 20 months for the cops to actually get the warrants for some records that showed she was out of state at the time. So she admitted she was pissed off at me and made it all up.

Thus they dropped all charges and now we are waiting for her to pay a civil settlement (can't say how much the settlement is due to the agreement, just that we reached a settlement) but I am just trying to get back on my feet and trying to figure out how to explain why I didn't work for almost 2 years.

A lot by trial and error. I also had two books. One is the SAS survival guide (not THAT great, but at least it has some concepts in it and some nice drawings, seeing how snares worked was great) and a Peterson guide for plants. Between hunting/fishing/growing I was able to get about 50% of my calories. another 40% came from the animal feed that I used for food (Cowpeas and corn mixed together) and then 10% was from urban foraging.

There was also a ton of crap people left behind in their campsites. Was able to salvage a lot of decent stuff from stuff people left behind, and I cleaned it up afterwards.

I am STILL awful at woodworking.

Not often does it hit -4. I live farther north in good old west virginia. I know what -27 feels like (only once a couple years back). More often than not its around 15-20 here with spurts of 2-3 days of single digits at night.
