Any other foragers out there? I've been learning about mycology and edible/medicinal plants for the past 4 years.

I've been excited for mushroom season all winter but we just had record breaking lows last night and snow the night before. It's going to be 68 tommorow then another 1-3 inches this weekend.
Atleast we got some precipitation..

anybody ever find these when foraging? I remember when I was a kid one of my dumbass friends ate some mushrooms from my front yard and it turned out they were liberty caps.

I knew my spelling was way off lol. He is an awesome dude knew a lot about almost anything he was like an encyclopedia. Taught me how to look for stuff to eat how to make water safe etc. Was more than I learned in scouts.

Yes. Used to be huge on mushrooms, had thousands of pictures I was trying to contribute to the Audubon Society, or some related reference for them, but bad file backup skills lead me to lose all of them. Here's one that survived.

VA here. Pretty much just waiting on morels to pop, snow expected this weekend so it’s looking like late April at this point although I’ve heard some have been found in the southwest corner of the state. I’ll post back here once I start finding them, hoping to make the season last a few weeks by moving higher up in altitude each outing.

There are ways to be pretty safe while mushroom hunting. If you limit yourself to 'edible mushrooms without gills' the risk of poisoning yourself is much lower, though you do limit what you're able to find this way.

There are relatively few seriously poisonous mushrooms that you would risk encountering. Most of the time you'll just have GI distress.
