How do I secure my dog while camping? He chews through rope and I don't trust a cloth tent to contain him.
Could I bring a crate and put the crate in the tent?

What do you do with your dogs?

I have two dogs.

One is great. She can go off leash everywhere, great recall even when triggered to chase prey animals, doesn't go far from me (stops and looks back/waits for me), doesn't destroy confinements/restraints, etc.

This guy breaks out of kennels, used to climb fences, chews through tie outs, chewed through a seatbelt, cannot be allowed off leash (poor recall and not highly motivated by food/toys for training, have an ecollar on him but still don't trust him of leash), and is 12 years old. He's still very lively, thoughand I would like to take him with me. I have tied him out on a cable (he can't chew through) in some places before, but I'm not sure how OK that is while camping. I've never stayed overnight due to concerns of him escaping.

My family owned him and I took him when I moved 2 years ago because he was always a problem and his other option was to be euthanized most likely. He was basically a semi-feral farm dog. I take him hiking on a 20ft lead and he enjoys it.

Thought about using Stainless steel wire rope? and then one of those screw things you screw into the ground?? and when lead the wire up into a tree (not too tight.. i'm not saying hang her) so its harder for him to cheew?

Yeah, when I said I've tied him out in a cable in the past, this is what I meant.

The stakes are usually not worth it though. A tree Is better. The stakes are either too easy to pull up, so he dog can, or too hard to pull up so you can never get it back out.

Just working on getting his focus and recall on a longline is very slow. I am not a novice in this area either; I have worked at kennels/dog training places, had many dogs, read a lot on the subject, etc.

It is not that he needs to get used to the tent. It is that he would run off into trouble if given the opportunity. The issue is securing him.

Dogs can be trained to do things and not do things. Have you tried that? It it didn't work, then you have a Bad Dog and might as well leave it with someone else when you go /out/. It's inhumane to put a free-spirited (untrained) dog in a crate in a tent when so many smells and things to bite are only feet away.

He's not a "bad dog". He was just "trained" over a decade via conditioning from his life and environment.
The other dog I have is much more "domestic" in behavior because I got her when young and spent a lot of time working with her. The difference in how they behave is very noticeable.

I have two dogs, anon. The one that I have had a long time and who was not an old neurotic farm dog is very well trained. She has excellent recall and follows direction from me/pays attention and tries to discern what I would like her to do. We can "talk" in a way this old guy and I can't. There's a massive difference and like I have said before, it is even more difficult to undo his decade of conditioning due to him having low drive for treats/toys/play as a "reward". I regard him as more of a management case than an opportunity to craft a dog.

Basic animal training principles work on children, women, men, etc.
The difference is mostly in understanding what motivates that species or individual, and learning to read the communication signs they give off in order to respond appropriately.

Training a dog vs woman vs man is not any more similar despite your dumb "hehe women are inferior me man me superior me not feel like loser now!"

Look into ADA training for children vs operant conditioning principles for animals. They are very similar in approach and once you start to understand the mechanics, you can apply that to typical human interactions and conditioning as well. That requires some social familiarity to do it well, though, so autistic 4chan shutins are probably not going to do well at it initially.

A short chain and a thick sling around a tree? I use short chain to tie my farm doggos to a fence if I'm moving off without them for a while. A longer chain and there's a chance they will jump the fence and hang themselves on it, they can do some pretty dumb shit. Happened to a friend of mine.

If not leaving them for some reason they just follow me around

He is an old dog that was not "mine" until I agreed to take him after the house he was living in burned down. He is now old and training takes a lot of time. All his life he has been "trained" to act as he does, and counter-conditioning takes even more time. And he's old.

My other dog is super fun and easy to take places because getting them while young really isnimportant for reliability.
