In defense of the video -- the only defense -- is that the box in question is from Japan, where people commercialize shit like that all the time. In stead of cutting a dead-fallen branch, buying farmed wood (or otherwise 'ethically' harvested) feels(much feelz!) more responsibleto them.

Otherwise, yes: every mystery box I have seen for /out/-related stuff might have one or two good things which quickly become redundant thanks to getting YET ANOTHER KNIFE for example in every box, and the rest is gimmics.

Personaly went with pic related. Works far better then laplander for processing wrist diameter wood. Great for digging poop holes, batonychopchop or breaking couple of inches of ice on the lake. Plus i use it as fire poker.

Boxes like this are extremely gimmicky. I don't think you ever actually come out ahead on these kinds of boxes BUT the one good thing that I will mention is that they introduce you to new products that you may not have known existed, and potentially add into your camping /out/ gear
