Has anyone broken an /out/ knife at some point?
The worst ive done is dropped mine and it got 2 small chips on the edge, it took like 3 mins to fix it and that time i chopped thru a live wire with a matchette and it melted the edge a little, fixed that in minutes aswell

I haven't personally done so, but I've watch 3 other people break their "camp" knives. Though, one was a "survival" knife. Two were batonning and one was prying like a moron. I've seen two knives break when being used properly, but those knives were old antique kitchen knives passed down for many generations. They had slight rust on the inside of one end of the break point, indicating that the original crack started long before the actual breakage.

Busted the tip off my knife prying the head off the cylinder of my motorcycle. Turns out I forgot one of the screws that held the two together.

But, $5 and benchmade replaced the blade.

That's ok, though; it'll still work fine, and it's not broken at all.

I wouldn't "fix" it as you'll remove too much steel to get down to the base of the chip. I'd just increase the angle on the rest of the edge to about 20 degrees per side.

A small knife is one of the best tools you can have. Knife doesn't have to mean a giant combat knife or a machete, a mora or folding knife is probably the first pick when selecting gear for hiking and camping.

You can make a splint for your leg to walk back with a knife.

Two very real uses that you couldn't do without it. You can't use a stick as leverage, as they will break when supporting your weight.

I have deeply studied why batonny is a thing and have already come to conclusions.

It's because backard neckbeards that never married or had a gf want to live adventures without actually living them, instead getting a knife and using it on their backyard.

Batonny retards have contributed to the thicc knife cancer but also have pushed towards research on new "supersteels" thanks to their compulsive consumerism and batonny advocacy, a reason why I am not against batonny.

The primitive one is the only worthwhile one, regardless of where you take it from. Walking on roads is pure shit. Also it's just a long trail, unless you're fascinated by Spain's heat or rain there are lots of other less crowded trails to walk. Even Kunglseden or GR11 or GR 9 are more attractive

Spain is best enjoyed by car or van, sleeping in a matress and enjoying the countryside and the towns.

Since the quality of both bayonets is absolutely terrible I recommend the M7, that will be better at piercing and being an actual bayonet. M9 is an ugly oversized poor quality "survival" batonny knife (not able to batonny).

I myself have a rare Colt M7 for sale, but it's only valuable for its rarity as a collectible.

I believe ZT has a better quality M9 model but it's more of an artist's impression rather than a great knife by its own merits.

Extrema Ratio makes a successful yet aspergers bayonet called the Fulcrum. It is high quality even if the design is not up to my personal taste.

In my oppinion the best bayonets are the bayonets that only serve as bayonets, those triangular spikes that may be banned nowadays. This applies to all tools and objects and life in general, that the winners are the best adapted to a single specific task, not the jacks of all trades. Bear this in mind when scouting for good knives.Eickhorn also makes good bayonets.

As for multitools, I EDC a Leatherman Charge tti, and no other multitool comes close to it in my oppinion. Victorinox are excellent as well, but the Wave and Charge models have the knives on the outside, you can flick them open like a regular folding knife. The S30V blade was a deal breaker for me.

It is also the multitool Tim Leatherman carries himself, and I'm partial to Leatherman as a brand because I've met Tim in person and he signed my multitool and engraved a dedication.

However as I said before, Victorinox multitools are quite excellent and I feel like their quality is more consistent. I chose Leatherman merely because the design blew me away on that particular model.

Not a top performing piece for batonny etc, but a top collectible and piece of human history. I wouldnt particularly want a modern rubber one as my tool knife, but I think the side-versions (D2 Extreme, Dog Head, Maserin FFL, etc...).

I'd be glad to carry and use any one of the classic ones as a cutting tool. I even like the unusual ones like the old tanto, very aesthetic.

I did the same thing with my kershaw 1735. Was not a the cylinder head though. I was prying on a timing gear cover of a volvo redblock. Broke 6mm off the tip. wound up grinding it down and making it more of drop point than the pointy spear tip it had. Lost that knife a couple years ago. Made me sad.

Great looking knife however the blade steel is shit tier status and speedsafe is a fucking joke. aluminum scales is a terrible idea no matter how nicely machined they are. And that pocket clip design is complete garbage of an after thought. I thought the leek would be better than benchmade. And it is for the price.
I've even had a benchmade once had the axis lock or something. Felt rather cheaply made for a $150. Tried cutting trough some drywall and must caught a screw and chipped the blade half way down. Again it was fucking cheaply made. Same cut with kershaw zing no issues even hit the screw and kept going.
Lost all faith I could have ever had for benchmade.

You need to learn what metal your knife is. That can tell you a great deal what it can or can not do. Anything that is stainless steel will be "cheap" when compared to carbon steel. When comparing the best of either for their intended purpose of course. Also, if a knife has ever been exposed to moderate heat, it can completely lose its temper making it softer or more brittle.

Yeah I did that after I ruined the benchmade. If I can remember it was sv10 or something. I dont really remeber what steel the leek was. Whereas the zing had scandvik1435 steel probibly the best for blades just shy of damascus maybe even on par. Shit part to that is kershaw stopped american production of the zing and made it speedsafe with a frame lock and changed the blades steel aswell.

Evidently, this type of extreme tool abuse is the go-to way to "test" a knife on youtube. Thus, there's a ton of people breaking knives left and right. On that note, the spine of a single edge blade isn't meant to be struck, only the edge. The edge doesn't transfer the same shock and vibration as the spine does when you hit something with it. This is why chopping will rarely break a knife, but whacking the spine will break them far more.

If you want to split logs, use the proper tool. An axe or hatchet depending on the size of the log.

I think I've read every excuse why the problem with the knife breaking wasn't in fact the abuse it was receiving from the person using the knife. Instead they list: bad metal, wasn't full tang, poor design, knotty wood, wood was too big, knife wasn't sharp enough, it was too cold out, knife must have been damaged previously when it was ___, and so on.

No one seems to grasp the fact they are beating on a knife and that alone is the cause of the knife breaking. It is like those people who use knife tips as screwdrivers and pry bars then get angry at the knife tip for breaking off.
