>>1598429>there have only been a few REPORTED casesFixed that for you.
My neighborhood has had a few animals with rabies in the past. None were reported to any type of authority. 2 were foxes, 3 were raccoons, 1 was a stray dog. The stray dog and 1 fox had the entire neighborhood up in arms trying to get them. The fox was followed to my front yard before someone with a firearm was able to get to the location and shoot it. The fox was bagged up and all the ground where the blood splattered was dug up and bagged then all of it was burned. The stray dog I got to shoot in a similar manner after we could get to where people had it sequestered. The same procedure was used in bagging it up and burning it. That dog got in a fight with 2 other dogs and they were put down and disposed of in the same manner by their owner. Of the raccoons I know about, 2 were in my traps and I dispatched, bagged, and burned everything. The other fox, I heard about.
There hasn't been a known case of rabies in this neighborhood in about 15 years I think. But, there hasn't been a single reported case of rabies in the county, ever. I think that has to do with no humans being infected though.
