Hello /out/, I first wanna apologize for any gramatical errors on this post, my main language is not English and also if I'm in the wrong board.

Me and some friends are planning on a backpacking trip through the south of Chile, we are planning on cutting some cost like cooking and other things. My question is if anyone has some good recipes for travels like these. I'm planning on using pic related to heat up stuff, I also have a frypan and a small pot.

Any help and tip is welcome.

Ditch the frying pan unless you have a specific reason for carrying it. I’d have one stove and pot per person, or a pot large enough to feed multiple people. It’s very annoying when you’re tired and hungry to have to wait a half hour for someone else to finish cooking and eating so you can cook your portion. Soups, dehydrated meals, Mac and cheese, pasta sides, tuna sides are the lightest and easiest. I don’t know what kind of processed foods you have in Chile, but think of things like MREs

If not lookup some cheap/easy alcohol stoves. Even an empty small can will work as long as it's not too cold.

Will run on anything highly flammable but alcohol fuel shouldn't be too hard to find

ramen noodles, instant rice, couscous, and instant sides (knorr sides, or whatever you have in chile) are always good.
Add a protein like summer sausage or tuna pouches, or you can carry hard cheeses if it's cold enough. Spam is okay, but very salty and you're left carrying a metal tim.
For the first 2-3 days you can also carry in veggies like broccoli to throw in your ramen before they go bad (i'm assuming you're planning on a trip soon, so it's summer over there in chile). If you need more vegetables you can also get dehydrated vegetable soup mixes.

this, if it was a car camping trip you'd be able to bring bacon and eggs in a cooler, but if it's a backpacking trip everything you'd need the frying pan for can be done in the pot.

It should be fine, if the gas the burner needs is widely available. I have a burner for example which I really love, yet its fuel is not commonly available (has special valve, not EN-417), only in larger cities, as I eventually found out.

I'll need an EN-417 compatible one for alonger journey as fuel for that is available even in small villages which have a agri-tools shop.

unfortunately here in muttland we only have "wet-cured" bacon

I have a setup like that I use on nights I don't feel like running the propane cooktop in my van. I've made entire 5 star meals with a setup like that.

cous cous is the shit.

you can cook it with everything, you don't waste the water you use while cooking and you also save fuel since you only need to heat a small portion of water, pour the couscous in and then shut the flame, cover the pot for 3 minutes and itìs done.

put some tuna in it and it's a great simple food.

meal2: sundried tomatoes, pasta, summer sausage all dumped in pot.
meal3: boil fresh green beans, if you are stopping places along the way to get fuel, maybe try and get some fresh meat to dump in the green beans.

Breakfast: oats+powdered milk+raisins+some king of nut, chopped. You can pre-mis everything, and put it in a ziplock, you just need to add water, cold or hot as you prefer. My go-to on long hikes, calorie-dense and a solid bowl for breakfast will keep you going until 1 pm no problem
dinner:
other than whats being said, hiking polenta. Couscous+powdered eggs+powdered milk, same as above, mix everything at home and carry in a ziplock, add hot water
adding to what gear you have, cut the bottom of a bottle of water/sode (10-15 cm height,something with thick rigid plastic, not a bottle of coke) You now have a bowl/cup/quart, taht cost nothing, wheighs nothing, and is virtually indestructible

when you leave for one night, you can afford to carry fresh produce, or heavier packaging like tin cans.
Once you hit 3 day plus, weight matters.
Imagine a tin can weighing 200g empty. I you eat 2 per day (lunch+evening) the cans alone are 1.2kg+.
Long trips are different i the sense that you have to think in terms of caloric density, getting the most possible calories out of the lightest possible weight
that muesli mix I posted about average 550kcal per 100g, polenta roughly the same. Assuming I need 4k calories (that's a minimum, I lose weight hiking on 4k, one hour of hiking with a heavy pack is 500-800kcals depending on terrain, added to your normal base caloric needs), then I would carry 800g per day so start with 2.4-3.2kgs for 3-4 day autonomy

If you want to keep some mobility and speed, you shouldn't go over 15kgs water included , so every 100g spared on a singe meal makes a whole world of difference

Cook over a wood fire whenever possible. Wood is cheap, easy to acquire, and literally fucking everywhere. Save yourself the fuel for times where you really need it.
