Appalachian trail advice

No.1684046 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
First time posting so sorry if i fuck anything up.

I really like the idea of thru hiking the Appalachian trial but im not sure how realistic the idea is. Is it actually as good as it seems or is it too busy to really enjoy being /out/?
I've got some experience hiking, i've done my DofE award but i think i'll do multiple trips to the highlands just to get a bit more confidence

If doing a complete thru hike seems too unreasonable i would probably just hike a shorter section as i read it takes about 5-7 months to complete the whole route so it might be hard to find that much time unless i take a gap year after finishing my A-levels

I'm a britfag so i'm not too sure on how the us laws around foreigners camping work and what sort of visa i would need (I assume just a normal tourist one) where would i need to look to find out shit like that?

sorry for the long post, any answers to questions or just general advice is really appreciated
