Depends on what you mean by bush. In the actual african, australian or american bush, I could.
In the local forests, I couldn't, since all the fruit trees that used to grow there centuries ago have been replaced by fast growing firewood trees, so I'd have to live completely of meat and would most likely suffer from malnutrition within a few months.

If I get to bring a full loadout of my usual gear, started out in the early summer and get to travel freely, I have no doubt I could make it a year or more on my own again. If I was limited to my actual EDC, dropped in an area I was unfamiliar with, or in a season I wasn't prepared for, it's unlikely but possible.

I've done a year with what I can carry on my back, in the region that I happen to have been born and raised in. Yeah, it's an area with a lot of fishing lakes and wild game, but it's where I'm at, and in most cases, it would be reasonable to assume that OP's question of "could you do it?" would apply to wherever you happen to already are, but without societal support.

I was homeless for 4 years and lived outside of a national forest. It was on the east coast though so I had abundant access to clean drinking streams and rain. Occasionally I would buy chicken noodle soup with coins I found in the parking areas, but other than that I ate a lot of fish and birds I caught. I didn't even use a tent, only a canopy tarp I set up every night. The only "modern" ameentities I used regularly and carried were a small portable charcoal grill and a Yeti cup for keeping ice cool and water warm depending on the season.

That was my jam nigga. Did you ever finish the series? My dad was super into birdwatching so that was our camping activity usually. The next couple books center around Frightful and the last book is purely about her 10/10 ?out? + conservation.

I'm pretty sure meat is one of the few things that you can survive entirely off of, but you need fat animals so you can render the fat. People who eat almost entirely rabbits have died because they don't have enough fat. Just don't eat polar bear liver because I remember a medical professor making a big deal that it leads to a toxic vitamin overdose of vitamin D.
