I was at this festival in SEA, I won't say the country but it was way out about a six hour drive up into the mountains and they had a bear cub free roaming and from what I could gather the bear's mother in a cage. The cage looked flimsy as hell but everyone was drinking and throwing these packages of dye at the cub and yelling at it and the mother was freaking out and trying to break the cage and every time the cub tried to get to the cage they'd throw it really hard in the air. It went on for a few hours and then people just seemed to forget about it and it was like any other party after that.

There's a webm of a bear attack where the bear just pins a guy down and eats fleshy bits off of him. He's conscious the entire time. His screams actually seemed to excite the beast and make him even more frenzied in his attack. Other people who were attacked have reported noticing this as well. If you’re not into guns, make loud a sounds and have a very long range capable bear spray. If you’re going where browns and grizzlies are, 10mm autos, wheel guns, or slug shotguns.
I like 10mm because I can keep a group of 16 rounds inside a CD sized circle at 25 yards with much less recoil of a higher powered wheel gun.
If you don’t think a 10 is enough, Bring the slug gun.

10mm Glocks (G20, G29, G40) or 10mm 1911s (there are multiple brands including doublestack options), most big bore revolvers typically weigh 30-50 oz which is still very light compared to rifles and shotguns (big wheel gat examples include SW 629, Taurus Tracker .44mag, Ruger Super Redhawk etc.). Most any 10mm pistol or big bore revolver basically, Glock 20 and 29 are probably the lightest of any option and can take a 15rd mag.

Any heavy .44mag bullet will produce significant temporary wound cavitation and penetrate pretty deep (sometimes around 3ft in ballistics gel). Heavy hardcast bullets work great for this. The same applies to heavy 10mm.

Hollow points typically have more fragmentation and less penetration depth with more bullet expansion. The maximum cavitation may be similar in size. Generally for a big bear you want as much penetration as you can get, while for smaller targets with less flesh over-penetration might be a problem and hollow points or soft points might be preferred. All of which are pretty effective at .44mag velocities and weights though, at which point it mostly boils down to preference and application.

My response was a bit of a shitpost, but a .44 was probably just about the best thing on the market a while back. Nowadays with really hot 10mm, I think firearms tech has made a better solution. A .44 would still work fine, but a 10mm is a better choice.

You need at least a couple of files, a drill, a hammer, and punches.
Then you buy a Glock brand Glock lower and upper parts kit, a recoil spring/ rod, a slide, a barrel, sights, and a magazine.

That plus a good amount of retards get the biggest pistol they can carry and then don't practice with the ammo because it costs $1.50 a shot, and then don't put rounds on target when they are attacked by a bear. If you get a glock 20 loaded correctly and become proficient with it, I guarantee that a bear is not physically able to intelligently attack you after you've scrambled its brain.
If you have no desire to become proficient with a firearm, then carry bear spray. It'll still probably work on the admittedly small chance you have of being approached by a bear.
Ideally you'd have both though, spray as a deterrent and the gun if you actually get attacked.
