Going camping for my first time this weekend with my gf (in PA)
Very excited, lads :)
It's a drive up spot which I know isn't real camping but it's very private and a great place to start imo.
Share stories, lessons learned, your plans, etc.

Here's a lesson I learned, if you're allowed to build a fire, always build a fire. It's easy to not bother but when it's cold and you're getting eaten by mozzies by 7:30pm it's already too late to get started on a fire.

Be sure to share pictures from your trip and watch out for wendigos.

Planned on building one as soon as i get there and the following evening. Hopefully the 8 logs i picked up at the store will be alright for the two of us, probably will need to find lots of scrap. Gonna cook up some meat skewers too.
Will keep posting how it goes tonight and any fuckups i make if threads still around

Its so gay when youre not allowed to make fire for no discernable reason. I camped in golden ears in BC recently and it was fucking wet as hell and cold at night and skeeters everywhere but no fire, never. Ignore the big recently used fire pit, we'll fucking fine you.
All the wood around was pine or fresh alder, smokey af.

Unless it's forest fire-prone Cali why would they give a fuck?
Also, fire picked up last night, was awesome. Had drinks, food, a bit of guitar going.
The fuckup was not laying down in tent to test the spot before securing it in place with the spikes.
Ground had some annoying bumps to sleep on, ground literally 5 feet further would've been perfect. Always do a test drive
Also never leave your tent open cause bugaboos n shit
Tent seks is nice btw, no bed creaking

I prefer small fires. You don't have to get a ton of wood together for one, it burns down quicker when you're ready for sleep, and it's easier to disperse in the backcountry when you pack up. I try not to leave any evidence of my fire that would be noticed at a glance. Big fires are for established pits or open areas imo.
