I came across this on YouTube and it seems pretty damn solid, it can definitely carry someone for more than the guy recommend if needed and easily modified too.

Would you guys purchase this gear if you're tight for money and wanted to go camping? What would you modify and how for longer /innawoods/ outings?

If you're tight on money, start looking through your house and garage for stuff that can fill the role before needing to buy any thing, even trying to make some shit too if possible.

Jesus christ I could buy a full, comfortable backpacking setup for that amount of money.
None of this "I can survive in my backyard" larp shit, but an actual backpacking kit you can take on regular trips and use for several years.

I would say what is missing is long term cooking supplies, unless you want to boil your water 8oz at a time, get one very large 5 gallon container and fill that up, then boil a quart at a time for use. Not even sure why he has mountain house there when you can get ~10 cans of beans for the same price. I've had an unused roll of ducktape in my pack for a year. You'll get more use out of a bow saw than a cheap folding saw. If you wanted a folding saw there are good quality ones that you'll end up paying for. Head lamp with no way of charging and no spare batteries, that's just dumb. Don't buy one expensive knife, buy 3 cheap ones.

P.S.: I was going to say Decathlon should have a perfectly fine folding pad for about 12€, but then checked the american Decathlon online store and they are US$24.99. Still, brand new, vs used...

Was gonna start a poor/cheapskate thread but I'll just dump some stuff here

-Permethrin is sold at Tractor Supply marketed for livestock, cheaper than hiker branded stuff and 20x the concentration
-Tyvek for ground sheets, could conceivably sew/tape together for a bivvy or light tarp
-Tarps in general are much cheaper than tents, work well in rain if pitched well
-BRS stove is cheap and tiny
-Cold soaking can be done in plastic jar, doesn't need stove, good if you're a sick masochist
-any kind of foam can make a good sit pad, got a sheet of pool noodle material from dollar store
-seltzer/smart water bottles for carrying/filtering with sawyer
-discount stores like TJ Max for synthetic base/mid layers and fleeces
-dollar store car sun shade to put under pad and reflect a bit more heat
-trash bag for waterproof pack liner

Just checked some prices on the usa based decathlon and i'm kind of baffled the prices are so high compared to eu sites. Got myself a 40 l travel back for 40 euro's, but it costs 70 dollars over there.

That firstaid kit wont have anything particularly useful in the event of serious injury, anything else can just be patched up with antibiotic ointment and leukotape/ducttape

Scrap the sitpad, just use the sleep pad

Unless you're using the tarp as a tent footprint, why would you need a tent AND a tarp?

If you scrap the tarp you don't need the paracord either

Use that money to buy a bic lighter, a fixed blade knife and a water filter like the sawyer mini

This is good post, sit pad is redundant with sleeping pad. p-cord and tarp are redundant with tent.
It's better to get a sawyer mini with that money instead.

Knife can be just a gas station $3 folding knife. if you want to keep the <$250 budget. I've never felt the need for a larger fixed blade knife, and stopped bringing my mora several years ago
