>Dec 01, 2021 — A group of hikers called for help from the summit of Mt. Marcy last week after climbing the high peak through 8 inches of snow in sneakers.

>The DEC's Ray Brook Dispatch in the Adirondacks received a call at 4:50 p.m. after sunset on Nov. 25, Thanksgiving Day, from three hikers on the summit of Marcy.

>The group was "requesting a ride off the mountain," according to the DEC. The hikers were complaining of frozen feet.

>Two NYS Forest Rangers responded to the call, though had trouble locating the hikers since no one in the group could read a map properly, the DEC said its write-up of the rescue.

>Five hours after the group called for help, rangers located the hikers and helped them to Marcy Dam and back to their cars. Mt. Marcy is a nearly 15-mile roundtrip hike with more than 3,000 feet of elevation gain.

>Winter conditions have set in in the Adirondack High Peaks, with deep snow and ice on many summits and trails. The DEC encourages hikers to be prepared for harsh, winter conditions when hiking in the Adirondacks.
