Is it possible to waterproof a piece of paper by submerging it in melted candle wax?

>going on a trip tomorrow morning

Honey actually works fantastic for this. Mix with salt and heat it up in the microwave until it loses its viscosity, and then coat it on the paper with a paintbrush if you have one.

Yeah. You should use beeswax instead if you have it, candle wax is toxic. Rub it on the paper, then heat it until it impregnates into the paper.

This is the correct answer.

Print off a couple to keep in your pocket, and keep some ziplock spares with your emergency gear + in a pocket on your pack. I usually bring 3 copies and only use one, but it's helpful having the others if it rains or gets blown away

Most maps printed at home are usually too small to be useful. Learn to use CalTopo and have 11”x11” maps printed at FedEx Office for $1 each.

anon, doesn't want to go to store, spend money, will be leaving in a short while and needs this for the following day

take your paper maps and such, get clear box tape, the wide stuff if you aren't a sub, and start taping that paper side to side, front AND back, then tear long pieces, and tape over the edges and FOLD IT OVER TO THE OTHER SIDE sticky side down.

Now you have tape laminated your maps, won't survive fully from submersion BUT will not get fucked in rain, quick dunks in water, sweat, etc
