Visiting the Adirondacks this summer... don't have a plan, need to come up with a plan.

Interested in stealth camping, disbursed camping, lean-to rentals (I have heard these are booked for years out), really anything.

For stealth/dispersed camping, it shouldn't be hard to find solitude if you stay away from the obvious tourist hotspots. Adirondack Park is six million acres (3x the size of Yellowstone National Park) that's a collection of Wild Forest and Wilderness areas with a few pockets of private property. Use a mapping service like Caltopo to pick out good spots to put up your tent/bivy/hammock/whatever.
That NYS/GIS map also shows designated camping areas if you decide on that.

Hard to directly compare. People live in the park, it's fucking massive. I'd say it's much more wild in general, you don't "enter" the park and go "camping" at the cool "landmarks". You're just there and you do what you want.

I know it through hiking the high peaks and camping in various rental campsights (drive in and island rentals on a lake). You kind of make it your own.

Be careful wandering off in the woods, the mountains are breddy steep. On the trails lean tos are first come first serve but there are a myriad of dedicated camp spots on trail. You can also camp anywhere off trail. Lots of beautiful spots along the high peaks.

If you want a more casual experience there are plenty of drive in camp sites. Also boat-in camp sites.

What's re you trying to do? Fish? Hike? Backpack? Bushwhack?

Imagine renting a lean-to lmao. You just gotta show up. (Actual advice, Black Pond has a nice lean-to, but you'd have to show up around springtime to get it when no one else is around)

I didn't realize they search your bags now at the visitor's centers that are national parks for civil war battlefields - gettysburg

i keep thc tincture in my bag and didn't want to get in trouble so i had a weird experience trying to pee at the visitor's center

also they have people standing around to make sure you pay to enter the exhibits

i remember my pre-9/11 gettysburg visitor center experience as comfy -oh well
