these ultimate frisby shorts are pretty endgame for hiking imo.
https://fiveultimate.com/collections/hydro-shorts they're the lightest weight shorts i've ever found that don't hold water, they're non stretch but full range of motion, and they have a ventilated ass-crack. no useful pockets but if you use a fanny pack they're the best non insulated shorts ever.
99% of my on trail hiking is done in nylon ballet warm-up pants
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3256801238321464.html they serve as a replacement as leggings for sun protection and bug protection that don't insulate as much, are more durable, lighter weight, and dry out very quickly. its like having pants in the sense you won't get bitten by ticks or sunburnt but otherwise doesn't feel like wearing pants.
off trail hiking pants i either wear a baggy pair of ripstop zip-off hiking pants from columbia i got at goodwill for $5 or my old style prana zions depending on what i'm doing. the stretchy pants snag less and are better for climbing, the baggy pants keep bugs off me a bit better and are nice & breezy.
for insulation i have a pair of thin polypropylene long johns for summer, a pair of thick polypropylene long johns for a travel, and a thick pair of merino wool ones for sleep and winter. depending on what i'm doing. a pair of long johns or leggings is pretty vital to any hiking pants but this time of year you'll usually leave em at home except to sleep in.
>>2415574>>2415771>>2415582the or's are similar. also i've had good luck with generic chink stretch hiking pants, the main feature the zion/brions have that is absent on chink hiking pants is the gusseted crotch. you just have to go over the pictures carefully and always use european sizing because its standardized with chinks. aliexpress and shopee and shit have the exact same hiking pants as amazon for half price.
