For your average fishing enthusiast, all you need is a decent enough rod with decent enough line plus a bobber, hook, and sinker. That's it. Any other equipment is strictly your preference. I'd recommend a straw hat, sunscreen, and either rubber boots or waterproof hiking boots. Where I live, a thermacell or bug spray is an absolute must.

If you want to use a lure, the only one you need is a red and white spoon lure.
