>"DIY MRE GUIDE" >yup, two packs of ramen for your monthly sodium intake, 4 KitKat bars for your corn syrup dose, 2 cans of Spam for the colon cancer nutrients, and some more candy in case you need even more fucking sugar I don't know if you've had to deal with this sort of nonsense, and I know you anons probably don't need this, but I still wanted to share it. Here's my recipe for making an actually nutritious and practical MRE that can keep you alive sustainably without caking your fucking arteries with lard. MEAL 1:>4tbsp milk powder - 150 calories, protein, fat >100g oats - 300 calories, carbs, fiber >50g berries, dehydrated - 60 calories, vital nutrients MEAL 2:>150g beans, dry - 250 calories, fiber, protein >200g whole rice, dry - 250 calories, fiber, carbs Boil rice, 2x volume of water. Cook beans, 1.5-2 times volume of water. Season rice with a packet of onions sauce, IF DESIRED - add a bit of hot sauce to beans, AVOID PROCESSED HOT SAUCE. MEAL 3:>150g of lentils, dry - 350 calories >100g hardtack - 300 calories Boil lentils in 2x volume of water, use salt and pepper to season. Break up hardtack, throw into the pot, enjoy poor man's lentil "chowder." SNACK:>100g peanuts, unsalted; banana, dried; 150 calories >30g 70% dark chocolate - 170 calories, antioxidants, fat, protein, very energy dense >drink 4L of water, daily, replenish your fluids SPICES:>Coghlan's 8-in-1 spice dispenser >onions sauce packet >tabasco Supplement heavily with found plants and vegetation, read up on what you can and cannot eat beforehand. You need fresh food; as healthy as I tried to make it, you cannot fucking survive on dehydrated shit forever, at least not if you want to live long. Eggs, small game meat, and other things like that can be found with some work. Mushrooms are your friends if you know how to find the right kind.

FOOTNOTE: If you want to skip the microplastics, expect to spend about 30 - 45 minutes per meal, if you're alright with BPA-lined cans, you can do a meal in about 10 minutes. Do not use "non-stick" cookware or plastic, unless you want to grow tits and lose all your testosterone (fuck off if you do.) Use cast iron, or, if too heavy (fuck off), then use stainless steel.
Anonymous
Quoted By:
APPENDIX: To actually make the MRE, use wax paper or small paper bags to bag everything. If you want tits, feel free to use small plastic bags. You CAN vacuum-seal everything in a large plastic bag, *but*, if it gets hot, you will get a load of plastic in your food. I wrap it in linen / canvas.

i get wanting to avoid salt when theres so much in our food already, and I do when I’m at home, but if I’m /out/ and working hard you bet I’m eating twice my daily value in sodium, because I need it. It took me forever to reconcile this, I used to try to maintain low sodium stuff all the time, but I have slowly realised when I am hiking double digit mile days in the sun I need that salt replenishment, makes all the difference

Never appreciated oatmeal like I did when I got sick and realized you can have minimally processed no onions shit steel rolled oats boiled and ready within 2 minutes if you can get water boiling. Dried beans/peas/lentils are great for flavor and nutrients but they take 30 mins or more to cook these things and in the case of dried beans its hours. Are there beans options besides canned that solve this? also here's a cute girl

>>2491841 45 minutes is a whole 100g gas canister lmfao, meal plan could be better supplementing with more fats like peanut butter for meal 1 to lower weight. salt and other electrolytes is extremely important when doing day long activities

Peanut butter is a good idea, salt and electrolytes too; I never would disagree with that.
But, as I mentioned - onions sauce in rice, and any salt you add to your other dishes throughout the day will be more than plenty.
The average person overeats their sodium by about 2x the right intake.
The average person is overweight, and if not overweight, has their arteries clogged with fucking lard.
It's just not good at all.
>>2491850 Tell me, how do you think people used to cook their meals?
Why even go camping at that point if you're just bringing the convenience of MMMMMMM QUICK-COOKING SLOP with you?

>>2491851 You're definitely a car camper. What are you even cooking that takes 45 mins? When I car camp, sure, I'll bring stuff like steaks, make baked potatoes, make chili and so forth, but when actually hike camping, I keep it simple because simple means less weight, so that turns into dehydrated spaghetti or chili, what ever meat I feel like that comes in baggies that i'll wrap in a tortilla, or even bring freeze dried meals.

>>2491709 I hear you, anon, but it's also a matter of the quality of salt, you know what I mean?
Similar to how eating a sweet potato, which has 15g of sugar is still healthier than drinking 15ml of corn syrup, you know?
Some sources of sodium are just better for you than others.
Every calorie matters, you can't violate thermodynamics, but not every calorie is equal in terms of taking care of your health.
500 calories from a big mac < 500 calories from a home-cooked lentil soup.
But, cheers.

When I car camp, sure, I'll bring stuff like steaks, make baked potatoes, make chili and so forth, but when actually hike camping He's talking about building a fire, you retarded sperg. That requires LESS bulk and weight than any pressurized fuel approach: a lighter, matches, and/or fire steel. It takes time, but you have time when you're /out/.
>I keep it simple because simple means less weight, so that turns into dehydrated spaghetti or chili, what ever meat I feel like that comes in baggies that i'll wrap in a tortilla, or even bring freeze dried meals. God, you're dumb. Actually, so are a lot of other people on this board. The ONLY truly legitimate reason for to carry dehydrated/freeze-dried food is because it saves a little bit of bulk and stays edible for much, much longer than standard food. A lot of energy is used to process foods this way, and they're needed only by long-range scouts and expedition members, which you are not.
You are a LARPer if you think you need this stuff. You need water anyway, will have to carry a fair bit anyway, so there's no reason to waste resources on dehydrated and especially freeze-dried shit you don't need just to save a few pounds and cubic inches, all purely to watch the "Encumbrance" stat on your RPG character sheet decrease slightly.
Picrel, this is you. If you want to spend a ton of money on a magic elvish tarp of lightness +5 just to feel a certain way, I guess that's cool for whoever holds the Dyneema patent, but you're still a dumb paypig.

For beans I soak them overnight and use a pressure cooker. There are some designed for backpacking that are fairly light and you can make 2 or 3 servings of beans in 45 minutes if your fire is hot.
I lived in a tent for 8 months and used a TLUD stove with sticks and wood pellets for this, worked great except for how sooty all my kit got, which is a very minor complaint.
