Wasn't sure if this goes on /out, /trv, or /o, but I wanted opinions on camping trailers, like which are good value and which are good to buy used, how to build, etc.

In my opinion, a DIY is the best option but sadly I don't have space to work on one

Anyone have a project to show off or good experiences camping in a nice little popup? Post it here!

I thought about this for a long while. I'm going to be travelling heavily for work next year so I need a mobile sleeping area. You are right they are stupidly priced and you're better off taking the time to build your own by a long shot. I decided that for myself a medium sized van converted so I can sleep in the back, have a small desk and a cooking area would be better.

I've seen a guy get one exactly like your pic down a pretty dangerous 4x4 only track. He slashed a tire on the way down and couldn't change it on the track so he just dragged it on the rim. It didn't do any damage I was surprised.

flagstaff e-pro or rockwood geo-pro(basically the same) if you want modern, and lightweight single axle. even the biggest ones are much lighter than you would expect.

I like the van idea, played with it back when a buddy was selling his chevy but he had torn out the rear seat-bed for cargo space.

I really think a trailer with a mobile power station battery pack and some solar panels fitted to the outside might be the best option since I drive an suv and have a dedicated storage place in my neighborhood

I don't have a camper but if I did, it would be a hard-side A-frame type pop-up.

What's something like a geo pro that costs way less. I need something that has a shitter ... Just sold my 29 ft trailer, nice but holy fuck It's too big.. I need a 20ish ft

A used geo pro or e-pro. Lots of people buy campers, and use them like two or three times, then they just sit in their driveway. KZ Sportsmen Classic line and KZ Escape line are cheaper and similar size/weight, but I dunno if they are as "premium." The Sportsemen Classic line has traditional siding.

I like the sportsman 130, it's probably the cheapest lightest thing with bathroom and couch and bare necessities. I'm hesitant to pull the trigger cause of quality for something that's 15kish and my wife now wants a few acres in west Virginia. Me being carpenter bro wants to build a teardrop with a toilet and sink. Biggest problem I have is I'm 6 foot and need little extra room for sleeping and want to sleep perpendicular but really I'd have to build out over the wheel wells. I'm surprised someone hasn't created something to what I wanted. I'll post some drawings later

my aging parents gutted and refit a small Scamp that is really comfy. I'm tall so I wouldn't really want to sleep in it but in all other respects it is very nice.

I just hammock camp but if I were going the trailer route I think I would go for something like this. You get the spaciousness of a tent, most of the security and peace of mind of a trailer, and whatever utilities or cargo you prefer without needing to haul around a city bus.

I don't see why not. Like with anything, make sure it was taken care of. Most of the more expensive trailers are bought by rich people who barely even use them, and have the money to maintain them. I'd just stay away from anything that has been modded or jerry-rigged. The E-pros and geo-pros are pre-rigged for solar if I remember correctly, and some came with it from the factory as an option even. I just like how light they are for the size, and they are very modern.

Bushwhacker plus - basically just a teardrop geo pro for about half the price. Probably going to sell my 6x12 enclosed that I built out for bushwhacker plus 17fd so I can go places that are limited to self contained units only.

You guys know any used trailers I can actually find and buy under 1,000 pounds dry weight and stand-up? A-liner style is fine, just anything where I could fully stand up and cook inside. My forester has a 1,500 max tow weight, and unfortunately most of the lightest stand up trailers I see like the 13' Scamp and the lightest A-liner are 1,200 pounds dry and I don't want to risk towing over weight.

The Little Guy Meerkat gen1 is under 1,000 pounds dry, but it's literally impossible to find a used one for sale and even if I could, I'm sure it'd be overpriced because of the rarity.
The Eriba Puck seems to be what the Meerkat was designed off of, but that's vintage and hard to find as well, especially in the U.S.
I saw Prolite trailers under 1,000, but those are really new, very expensive and backordered.
Seems the options are very limited.
