Honing is mostly just straightening the edge on a microscopic level while removing very little metal.
Reprofiling is exactly what it sounds like; removing metal until the blade reaches the desired shape.
This blade needs to be entirely reprofiled. Whoever said that the edge is undamaged needs to get their eyes checked, because it doesn't look like there is an edge profile on the blade.
Honestly, a big ass blade like that might be worth it to send to a professional, but be weary because some "professionals" put that shit on a grinding wheel and completely fuck up the tempering of the knife. I'd expect to pay 30 to 50 dollars for a good knife overhaul.
There are home-gamer methods to sharpening, I bought the Worksharp Precision Adjust and I think it's real nifty, but it doesn't work that well for large knives. Pic related is pretty much the ideal blade length, but it can just barely handle my kitchen knife that has a 12 inch blade.
Be warned, if you're going to seriously reprofile an edge with a whetstone or something like the Worksharp, it's going to take several hours of hard work.
It took me about five hours to take this Browning Ignite blade I got for LARPing inna woods from a 30 degree overall blade profile to a 20 degree profile, but the results are extremely consistent if you get good with the tools you got.
TL;DR I highly recommend the Worksharp Precision Adjust but it's probably too small for your knife. Send it in and get a pro to give her some love.
