That's the absolute mandatory for any one and everyone doing anything.
Now comes the peripherals that matter.
A knife.
It matters. If you only have a knife you have a chance. Get a small folding knife or a mora. Something with a good locking mechanism. Civivi do nice stuff now. Could get a fixed blade but honestly just a small folder for starting out.
A flash light / torch.
Get a head lamp that uses common batteries, has some waterproofing (IPX rated) or - OR - Get a nice headlamp that uses rechargable batteries. 18650s or 21700s are great for power and lasting. It's nice to have a few and you can get a lot of hours. You need light. So go out of your way to get a light.
Medical.
Get a bandage. Get some Imodium. Get some burn gel. Get some sports tape (better than band aids) Get painkillers. Get water purification tablets for emergency use. Get gloves for sterile treatment. Get earplugs in case you need to sleep around bugs. Get bug spray.
Food.
Get calory dence, prepared and easy to eat food that keeps well. Eat what you would normally eat, but make sure you have a mix of stuff that keeps you from shitting yourself or being lethargic. Peanut butter. Dry fruits. Jerky. Freeze dry meals. MREs (ew). Oatmeal. Coffee, tea, mixer drinks. Powdered soups. Eat what you eat + something for health if you don't eat well. You should always have more than you need in case of stranding. Cooking is fun. Pack fun food.
Stove.
Stoves are meal heaters. Often they are not for cooking a steak or preparing baked bread from flour. They are thus not often stoves. You can get an alchohol stove DIRT cheap on ebay for starters. Lotta hikers still use homemade soda can stoves with alchohol for fuel. Simple. Can't break them. Also can't adjust them or put them away without cooling.
A gas can stove is a good medium. you can bring a cannister and the actual stove attatchment. Fast heating easy lighting.
