The top comment's advice to "stand perfectly still" is bullshit. Just calmly back away and make a wide berth around them. I've had dozens of scary close range encounters with moose up here in Maine. They're not that dangerous if you just leave them alone. They're also disgusting and you can usually see the ticks on them up close, they look like something out of Fallout half the time.
