Does this board typically do a group hike/meetup for the AT? If not, let's start. I would love to hike with some anons. The AT is probably the most popular hiking trail in the world so I guess there's no reason to hike it alone.

I was considering the thru-hike crowd. I plan on starting at the same time as the thru hikers but will stop hiking before NC

I would love to do the Cumberland Trail but it's not finished yet. They've added a lot more trails since pic related but it still has a lot of missing space

Seems like it would be much more fun to string together a couple of 20-100 mi trails than to do one ultra long one. As long as you have a car and can get to the different trailheads. The problem is arranging shuttles but even that's not unsurmountable.
What about the trails along Cumberland and Pine Mountain to the NE of that trail you posted? I'm pretty sure there's at least 80 mi of hiking if not more on the trails that run along the spine of those ridges.

You literally NEVER hear about people on /out/ backpacking longer trails in the east that are not the AT. It's so sad.

did you actually include lots of really nice photos? people just do one or two photos and that's not gonna sustain a thread
anyways, if you happen to do any backpacking on eastern trails that are not the AT, you should share it, especially if recent, or even something you are planning

The Amicalola Lodge at Amicalola State Park has a wonderful Sunday brunch I would meet fellow AT enthusiasts at. I get there right at the 11 AM open so I do not have to park to far from the Lodge entrance.
