>>2686675>terriersThis is the real solution. I currently have three rat terriers, and have had a total of 8 throughout my life.
The breed wasn’t recognized by the AKC until maybe 2010, while the UKC recognized them earlier, I think around 2000, even though it’s an American dog. Prior to that it was more of a type than a unique breed. But before industrialized farming it was the most common dog in the US. Everyone had a few dogs, or someone in the community would have several specifically for rodent infestations.
When you look up “rat terrier” on the ALC website, the image they use is acktchually one of my dogs sires (no dox please). His dam as well as the dam and sire of another dog are all platinum grand champions, and have a slew of other titles in conformation, agility, obedience, and whatever else.
I’ve taken my dogs along with their parents (one of which has won Best in Breed at the big Eukenaba AKC National Championship) to go rafting at a hobby farm. It’s a lot of fun for the dogs and owners, and not so much for the rats. It’s pretty cool how quickly they pick up on what to do, ie kill. Pic isn’t mine but you get the idea. You turn over old dirty bay and watch your dogs go ape shit chasing, biting, and shaking rats.
tl;dr I love rat terrier
